Ruhr-Biotech focuses on energy efficiency of our microalgae bioreactors to reduce microalgae production cost when it comes to large scale cultivation.

Multiple technological features were developed during our research phase, to ensure optimal uptake of the input energy by the microalgae and thus reduce the biomass production cost.
Rapid Scale-up capability
The compact design of our bioreactors enables rapid scale-up even in urban areas where vast land is uncommon. While the economical production cost of these bioreactors ensures the possibility of our system acting as a major source of alternative protein in the future.
Numerous sensors and the compact design of our bioreactors allow not only real-time monitoring of the cultivation parameters, but also quick response and re-balancing of the whole system in case of unexpected change in cultivation parameters.
Is it same as vertical farms?
Not exactly. The product from our bioreactor is edible high-protein biomass while most of the vertical farms for plants are focusing on certain types of fruits and leafy greens.

Therefore, together with vertical farms for leafy plants, the system from Ruhr-Biotech is a necessary component for a complete diet, in a future that food is to be grown mainly indoor to enhance food security.
